ODBC Driver Overview
An ODBC driver is used by programs and programming languages to access data from database management systems using the ODBC interface. The ODBC API allows apps to communicate with various databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, Oracle, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Teradata. ODBC SQLite Driver Developers implement the ODBC API function.
Put simply, a driver enables a program to communicate with another program or source. A driver is more like an intermediary, translating information between programs spanning two diverse languages. To select an endpoint for a Data Sources section, you must first launch a query. To analyze a data source, you need a driver for that data source.
The Client-Level Interface is a database user interface that works per user. It is a standard protocol that enables programs to communicate with one another across platforms that have Windows operating systems and a form of driver software that enables you to communicate with your database server using the Internet.
What is ODBC used for?
There are many different ways to connect different types of data sources. With ODBC, you can connect to the database using a single ODBC driver rather than having to install multiple drivers. ODBC drivers are software libraries that implement the SQL Data Access Interface Specification.
ODBC is Microsoft’s database abstraction layer that enables applications to use a variety of databases. User-defined data sources are the key building blocks of all business intelligence applications. An end user can use these tools to create their own data source, a feature not currently available. To interact with the data sources like Oracle, MySQL, BigCommerce and Salesforce.
ODBC Driver Manager
The communication between an application and an ODBC driver can be managed by an ODBC driver manager. It’s important that you understand the responsibilities of the driver manager so that you can write applications that work correctly.
The standard interface for connecting applications to databases is provided by the ODBC. Direct access to flat files and key-value stores is one of the things this includes. The open-source drivers unixODBC and iODBC are similar and can be used on non-Windows platforms.
If you’re a data engineer or a data scientist, then the data source is the file, a database, a cloud application, or any other. A data source is a storage system or application that can be used to retrieve data.
Devart ODBC Drivers
For accessing data in databases and cloud applications directly from 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, macOS, and Linux, the Devart’s drivers are high performance. You can use real-time analytics, reporting, and business intelligence with your preferred tools, such as Crystal Reports, with the latest versions of the drivers.
